Here are some answers to common questions…

How much does a counselling session cost?

We offer a variety of counselling sessions from $84-$165. All prices are displayed on our booking site when you select a practitioner and session type.

  • Individual Counselling Session with a Registered Clinical Counsellor – $165.00 (including GST)
  • Reduced Cost Counselling Session with an Intern Clinical Counsellor – $84 (including GST)
  • Reduced Cost Family Counselling Session with an Intern Clinical Counsellor – $126 (including GST)
Will my health insurance cover the cost of counselling?

Many insurance providers cover all or a portion of the cost of counselling sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor, or a Clinical Counsellor under the supervision of a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Every plan is different, however, and as such, we encourage all clients to reach out to their provider to find out the specifications of their plan. If you do have coverage for counselling sessions, a receipt will be provided after payment that can be submitted to your provider for reimbursement. We do not offer direct billing.

How can I pay for my counselling session?

We currently accept payment through Interact E-transfer and all major credit cards. If paying by E-transfer, we ask that all payments be sent to the e-mail provided by your counsellor within 24hrs. If paying by credit card, we ask that clients securely store a credit card on file, which can be used to automatically process payment after each session. Following receipt of payment, clients will be provided with a detailed invoice for their records.

What is your cancellation policy? Will I be charged for cancelling a session?

We have a 24hr cancellation policy, meaning that any session can be cancelled or re-scheduled up to 24hrs before the time of the appointment. You can easily access your account page to cancel or reschedule prior to 24hrs.

If a session is cancelled within 24hrs of your appointment, there will be no cancellation fee. However, if less than 24hrs notice of a cancellation is provided, or in the case of a no show, the cost of the session will be charged in full. Considerations may be made in the case of an emergency and will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

It is more convenient for me to do sessions from home, do you offer options aside from in-person sessions?

Yes, absolutely. These days we recognize that it can be tough to make it to an in-person session, so we offer the convenience of both online and phone counselling sessions. If you have booked an online session, you will receive a link to the Jane online platform 1hr before your session begins. Please make sure that you have access to a computer with a camera and microphone. If you have booked a phone session, one of our counsellors with call you on the number provided at the time of your session.

Will everything discussed in counselling sessions be kept confidential?

Confidentiality is of the utmost importance and will be maintained with the highest priority throughout the counselling process, unless in the case of a counsellor’s duty to report. The duty to report is a legal requirement to break confidentiality under the following circumstances:

  • If there is reason to believe that you or someone else is in danger of imminent harm (probable suicide or homicide)
  • If there is reason to believe that a child is being abused, neglected, or mistreated
  • If a client’s records have been subpoenaed by the court and compliance is required by law
It is my first time to counselling, what if I am nervous and don’t know what to talk about?

It is completely normal and very common to feel nervous about a first counselling session. We like to remind our clients that they are in the driver seat, and we, as counsellors, are in the passenger seat, meaning that there are no obligations, and we will go at your own pace. During a first counselling session, we will complete an intake together and your counsellor will ask a variety of questions that will provide some guidance. Any questions you may have can be answered at this time, or at any point throughout counselling. Ultimately, in the first session, your counsellor wants to help you feel as comfortable as possible and get to know you better!
