Will everything discussed in counselling sessions be kept confidential?
Confidentiality is of the utmost importance and will be maintained with the highest priority throughout the counselling process, unless in the case of a counsellor’s duty to report. The duty to report is a legal requirement to break confidentiality under the following circumstances:
- If there is reason to believe that you or someone else is in danger of imminent harm (probable suicide or homicide)
- If there is reason to believe that a child is being abused, neglected, or mistreated
- If a client’s records have been subpoenaed by the court and compliance is required by law
